If you'd like to direct a domain address that you have to another domain name or subdomain, a good way to do that would be to use a CNAME record. By setting up such a record, the domain name being redirected loses all its records (A, MX, etc) and instead, it takes the A record of the Internet domain it's forwarded to. In this way, if you are using a web design service by some company that gives you a subdomain, you can use an actual domain and not only will it be pointed to the Internet site that you have created, but it will also appear in the Internet browser address bar at all times. Alternative possible uses of a CNAME record are to direct all of the traffic from different subdomains to their main domain name, or to use the webmail service of your hosting company by using webmail.your-doman.com, for example. The latter will work only by setting up a CNAME record for a subdomain since this kind of a record set up for the main domain address makes it impossible to use email addresses.

CNAME Records in Web Hosting

If you have a web hosting plan from our company and you would like to set up a CNAME record, it'll take you just a few mouse clicks to make it happen. You can access the DNS records for all domain addresses and subdomains hosted in your account via the Hepsia Control Panel included with each and every plan and adding a new record is as simple as clicking on a button, selecting the type, which will be CNAME in this case, typing the actual record value and saving the modification. If you have never added this kind of record before, you will find a Help section with a detailed video tutorial that you can watch, or you can just contact us and we'll assist you with this task. If you have created a site via another company, you want to use a private URL for your webmail or you would like to designate a subdomain to be used with the services of a different company, for example Google Apps, all it takes is creating a CNAME record with a few clicks in your CP.

CNAME Records in Semi-dedicated Hosting

The Hepsia hosting CP, which comes with every one of our semi-dedicated server accounts, will allow you to create a CNAME record easily. Whether you want to create a private URL for your emails, to point a domain address to a subdomain in the account or to forward a domain to another company and use some third-party service that they provide, it will not require more than three mouse clicks to create such a record. All DNS records for the domain names and subdomains hosted in the semi-dedicated account are going to be listed in a separate section in the CP, so once you are there, all you will have to do will be to choose the type of the record that you want to create and the hostname for which you are creating it, and then enter the actual record text. For your convenience, you can watch a short video in the Control Panel on how to set up a CNAME record or you can follow the instructions in the help article, that is available in the DNS records section.
